Microsoft Entra ID, formerly known as Azure Active Directory, is Microsoft’s multi-tenant, cloud-based directory and identity management service. It combines core directory services, application access management, and identity protection into a single solution.

The name change to Microsoft Entra ID represents the evolution and unification of the Microsoft Entra product family, and a commitment to simplify secure access experiences for everyone⁴. There are no changes to capabilities, licensing, or pricing.

Microsoft Entra ID provides several comprehensive capabilities including:

  • App integrations and single sign-on (SSO)
  • Passwordless and multifactor authentication (MFA)
  • Conditional access
  • Identity protection
  • Privileged identity management
  • End-user self-service
  • Unified admin center¹

It’s designed to provide a fast, easy sign-in experience across your multi-cloud environment to keep your users productive, reduce time managing passwords, and increase productivity. It’s also an integrated cloud identity and access solution, and a leader in the market for managing directories, enabling access to applications, and protecting identities.
