Microsoft Entra ID, formerly known as Azure Active Directory, is Microsoft's multi-tenant, cloud-based directory and identity management service. It combines core directory services, application access management, and identity protection into a single solution.


The name change to Microsoft Entra ID represents the evolution and unification of the Microsoft Entra product family, and a commitment to simplify secure access experiences for everyone⁴. There are no changes to capabilities, licensing, or pricing.



Microsoft Entra ID provides several comprehensive capabilities including:


- App integrations and single sign-on (SSO)

- Passwordless and multifactor authentication (MFA)

- Conditional access

- Identity protection

- Privileged identity management

- End-user self-service

- Unified admin center¹
